Calanques National Park: choose an entrance, then check access

The park has no single arrival point. Its coast spans Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat. The official access scheme separates gateways such as Luminy, Sormiou–Morgiou and Port-Miou. Choose a cove or walk first, then navigate to its actual starting point; a marker in the park's geographic centre is not an entrance. The 2011 photograph depicts Sugiton, not every cove or today's path conditions.

Fire restrictions and Sugiton booking are separate checks

From 1 June to 30 September, land access to the wooded massifs can be restricted according to the next day's fire-risk decision, says the park authority. On a red-risk day, access from land is barred and a boat visit does not permit disembarking in the park. Check Mes Calanques or the prefecture's current notice before setting out. Sugiton and Pierres Tombées have a separate free reservation requirement on specified high-season dates. The listed 2026 dates must not be carried over to a later season; confirm the current calendar and procedure.

Prepare for a rocky coastal hike

The park's walking advice warns of sun, slippery or sharp rock and no water points. It recommends at least 1.5 litres of water per person for a half-day outing and proper shoes, not beach sandals. Carry your rubbish out. General admission to the park is free, but that does not override fire closures, sector bookings or route restrictions. Check your specific trail, transport and access status shortly before travel.
